Construction Workers Explain Why Workplace Injuries Go Unreported

Type:
Reports

This overview from the Center for Construction Research and Training summarizes the key findings from “Construction Workers’ Reasons for Not Reporting Work-Related Injuries: An Exploratory Study” by JT Moore, KP Cigularov, JM Sampson, JC Rosecrance, and PY Chen, published in International Journal of Occupational Safety and Ergonomics, 2013. In the study, more than one-fourth of the respondents said that at some point in their construction career they suffered a work-related injury but did not report it. One reason for not reporting injuries mentioned by several of the workers surveyed was the fear of employer retaliation.
