More Than Meets the Eye: Social, Economic, and Emotional Impacts of Work-Related Injury and Illness
This article assesses the severe medical, financial, and emotional impacts of workplace injuries and illnesses. The article finds that many injured and ill workers lost their health insurance, encountered treating physicians reluctant to become involved with the workers’ compensation system, and suffered severe to catastrophic financial and emotional burdens as a result of their injuries and illnesses.
